I would like to travel on the 11:39 train from Prague to Budapest but I am worried that if my flight is delayed (10:15 arrival) I will miss the train. I would like to travel 2nd class with no reservation but it looks like a reservation is obligatory. If I miss the train can I use my ticket on a later train?

Dear Mike,

for day trains reservation is not obligatory but usually optional. If you miss the train at 11:39, you can take the later one at 15:39. Ticket without seat reservation is valid for both trains.

Thank you Lucie, I understand what you are saying but the ticket purchase screen says the following for this train: From station: Praha hl.n. (Prague main railway station)

To station: Budapest-Keleti pu (Budapest Keleti pu. railway station)

Departure: 30. May 2014 11:39

Arrival: 30. May 2014 18:35

Travel time: 6:56

Travellers: 2 (Adults: 2, Children: 0)

Cabin: 2nd class (Seat reservation is obligatory)

Price: 112 EUR Because it says „Seat reservation is obligatory“ does this mean I am buying a reservation?

I checked and you are right, tickets are with seat reservation, but you can travel also without it. In our reservation system seat reservation is automatically included.

So you can reserve tickets for 11:29 with seat reservation and if you miss the train you can take later one (you will not use this reservation, but you will use just tickets).

hello – i have just missed the 5:25 train from budapest kelti to praha holesovice. i had a seat reservation. from what you are saying above, it will be ok to take the next train with my reference number? i do not yet have the physical tickets, only the internet ticket purchase data.

Dear Kristen, I am sorry to hear about the trouble. I have not found your order in our system. Perhaps you bought the tickets through someone else? It may be wise to ask directly them. Generally speaking international tickets are valid all day for all trains. If you miss your train, the seat reservation expires and you can take a later train. But usually a ticket or an e-ticket is needed. Kind regards Pavla

hi pavia,

thanks so much for your help and response. you are right my ticket was through mav-start. i emailed them directly since i do not have calling available and they said they would get back to me in 3 months! ha! i am at the station now and was told i need to purchase a new ticket at a higher rate :( since you said generally it is fine all day for the ticket, in your opinion do you think it will still be able to get on the later train with the ticket and seat reservation i have?
