Home :: Trains :: European trains :: Vienna → Prague :: Question re: Vienna-Prague roundtrip
  • Date / time: 2011-05-01 22:32:22Name: Natasha

Hi, my husband and I would like to take the D 406 Chopin /470 overnight train from Vienna to Prague on Monday June 13th, and want to take a mid-day train back on Wed. June 15th.

    Couple of questions:

    1. I haven't been able to find the 406 Chopin /470 train on the timetable. I really like that it leaves at 23:00 and arrives at 6:00, but all the timetables I check don't have such a train. Is this train only available for booking at the station or via mail?
    2. How can I check what mid-day options are available on 6/15 going back to Vienna that can be purchased as part of a round-trip package with the 406 Chopin/470.

3)If we don't purchase tickets in advance, is it possible that this train will sell out?

    Thank you in advance!

    Natasha

Hi, please see overnight schedule. You can book at the station or via us, please write in notes, that you are interested in overnight connection. We always recommend to get tickets in advance, especially in peak season.

Hi, I'm confused by the order form: https://czech-transport.com/index.php?… I'm trying to get 2nd class tickets for overnight train (vienna to Prague), but before I do, I have some questions:

        1. Do I still need to „reserve“ our seats on the form if I'm purchasing tickets for an overnight train? (406 Chopin / 470) – I thought all „seats“ are beds and we get our own cabin when we purchase 2 overnight tickets… What happens if we purchase but don't „reserve“ seats in the overnight train?

2)Is it less expensive to get roundtrip or buy the two legs separately? If roundtrip, then I have a question about that too – the form doesn't ask me what time I want my return to be. Can it be any of the trains that go from Prague to Vienna? Specifically, I'd be interested in taking the 406 Chopin / 470 on Monday, June 14th at 22:08 and returning on the EC 173 Vindobona train on Wed. June 15th at 13:39. Where would I indicate this on the form? Could I get charged but not get the return time I requested?

        1. Does it cost anything to send purchased tickets to the U.S.? How long does it take?

          Dear Natasha,

          • for overnight train you do not need to enter seat reservation, just mark down in box for notes that you want sleeper cabin and if its going to be sleeper cabin for male, female or mixed couple.
          • It is less expensive if you get a return ticket, exact price depends on exact day of travel – travelling over weekend is cheaper than any day in a working week. In general there is up to 20% discount. If you want to take a return ticket, just select return way too, there is just one overnight train, so time cannot be selected though.
          • We send tickets all around the world, delivery to USA takes approx. 14 days. Delivery fee is 30 EUR.

            1. Is there a way to indicate that we'd like the 2-person sleeper cabin?
            2. Can I get roundtrip tickets if the second leg is not overnight? Above I mentioned that I'm considering the first leg overnight and second leg during the daytime… In this case would I have to get 2 one ways?
            3. Also, is it 30 EUR total or per ticket for USA delivery? If I order two one way tickets, then I'd only have to pay the delivery charge for the overnight leg, right, since the daytime tickets can be purchased online… yes?

              • there is a box where you can write us that you want sleeper cabin for 2 persons.
              • Yes, for sure, moreover I will now remember your order :) and get back to you immediately.
              • 30 EUR is total per delivery, daytime tickets can be purchased online and they are delivered via e-mail without additional cost.

Hi, one more question… is it possible to purchase an open ticket for the second leg of my trip? In this case, I'd get one overnight trip on 6/13 and one open ticket for 6/15. (If yes, how much would this cost?) thank you!!

Hello, yes, you can get an open ticket but without seat or berth reservation. Single open ticket will cost you 43 EUR.
