Tanec Praha

The International Festival of Contemporary Dance and Movement Theatre is one of the highlights of the dance season in the Czech Republic. Festival achieved extraordinary public interest primarily due to hosting prestigious dancing groups from around the world. Over the twenty years of its existence this festival introduced to the public the real world's top dancers and enabled Czech audiences to gain a better understanding of the difference between traditional ballet and progressive, experimental dance, which crosses the borders between artistic contemporary disciplines.

The best Prague and regional scenes offer performances of professional companies and talented newcomers. The accompanying program includes informal meetings, dance workshops and labs, photo exhibitions, and various performances. Such an accompanying program helps to develop long-term projects of international co-production to be able to present new experimental work during the whole season especially in the new dance venue Ponec.

Tanec Praha registred the significant increase of interest in other regions and spread gradually to other Czech cities. Contemporary dance has already established outside the capital and gradually approaches the normal position of the genre in other European countries.
