Jewish tour in Prague quarter

The Jewish Quarter in Prague (in czech Josefov) is located between the Old Town Square and the Vltava River. Jewish Quarter dates back to 13th century, when Jewish community was expelled from Prague centre to settle in one area.

The Jewish Quarter know as well as the Prague Jewish Ghetto experienced and endured a lot of structural changes, the latest of which was a vast redevelopment of the area between 1893–1913.

Jewish monuments

All buildings form the best preserved complex of Jewish historical monuments across all Europe. Lets name six well-known synagogues as the Old-New Synagogue and the Spanish Synagogue, Pinkas Synagogue, Klausen Synagogue, Maisel Synagogue and High Synagogue. The Jewish Town Hall and the Old Jewish Cemetery together with The Rudolfinum are very remarkable buildindgs as well.

Most historical sights in the Jewish Quarter come under the auspices of the Jewish Museum. A single admission ticket gains you entry to all the buildings under their control.

Important Jewish personalities

There are two figures synonymous with this part of the city to be named – Franz Kafka (1883 – 1924) and the mystical humunculus Golem created by Jehuda ben Bezalel, known as Rabi Löw.
